Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

How to calculate shipping costs?

Add Base Rate + (Rate per Weight × Package Weight) + (Rate per Distance × Distance) + Additional Fees.

How do I calculate shipping costs if my package is large but light?

Use volumetric (dimensional) weight if it exceeds actual weight—carriers bill the higher value. Check your carrier’s volumetric divisor.

Does this work for the shipping cost calculator in India?

Yes—enter values in ₹ and apply India-specific fees (fuel surcharge %, GST, COD). The formula remains the same.

What counts as Additional Fees?

Fuel surcharge, handling, insurance, COD fees, customs/duties, clearance, remote-area charges—include any that apply to your shipment.

Should I use km/miles or kg/lbs?

Either is fine—just keep units consistent across inputs and rates.

How often should I update rates?

Whenever carriers change base rates, fuel surcharges, zone structures, or volumetric rules—typically quarterly.

Can this estimate international shipments?

Yes. Enter your international Rate per Distance, Rate per Weight, and include duties/taxes and clearance fees in Additional Fees.
